1. On the ESX host that you plan to make any storage allocation changes
to, including creating or deleting Datastores, resizing a volume using array
expansion or adding Extent members, perform a rescan to insure that the host
sees the most current storage view PRIOR TO making any changes.
2. After you make any storage allocation change, perform a rescan on
every ESX host that can see the affected storage to insure they reflect an
accurate view. This must be done even if Virtual Center shows it correctly.
3. The Extent master and all members of an Extent set must be visible
from all ESX hosts, which precludes the use of local storage for the Extent
master or any member, unless the entire set is on local storage.
4. For maximum safety, I/O should be quiesced on all disks involved in
Extent Growth, or when resizing a volume using array expansion, and a rescan
must be performed on all hosts.
